Moose It Up

If I go to Moosewood enough will I turn into a moose?

Probably  not but the fella and I went again tonight.

We started with a salad.  I got the spinach-basil house dressing, while the lovely fella got the feta garlic dressing.   I still like the lemon tahini best.

He also got an Ithaca Apricot Wheat Ale.  I tried it, pretty tasty! Very fruity!  I don’t like beer too much but I would definitely order one of those sometime!

Apparently in 2008 it was voted the best brewery in New York state?  Hmm…

Before leaving the house, I looked at the menu (as it changes daily) so by the time I got there I already knew what I wanted.  Sadly, when we were seated the waiter let us know that the Eggplant, Red Pepper and Spinach Curry was already gone!  Sooo sad!  So instead I got the Mole de Olla (A traditional Cuernavacan “kettle” stew of potatoes, corn, green beans, zucchini and yellow squash simmered with a spicy red guajillo chile mole; served with vegan cornbread and topped with Monterey Jack cheese.”

Sounds and looks tasty right?  It wasn’t.  It was cold and bland.  I actually ended up eating about five bites before the lovely fella ate the rest.

His on the other hand (Red White and Green Lasagna: Layers of lasagna noodles, roasted zucchini, Italian cheeses and spinach  baked in a tomato-wine sauce) was delicious!  I probably ate more of his than he did.

I was really disappointed in my dish but didn’t send it back.  For some reason, I can never bring myself to do that. How you send things back at restaurants if you are not pleased? Is it rude to do so?  Do restaurants appreciate honesty?

Oh well.  I still ate plenty and had a nice time.

The evening wouldn’t have been complete without dessert: Vegan Apple-Blackberry Crumble

Delicious.

Enough said.

I’m dying to buy one of their cookbooks!  I think I’m going to buy one (or two so I can get free shipping) on Amazon.  Any suggestions from Moosewood Cookbook owners??

The lovely fella is leaving tomorrow, and I’m pretty bummed about that but what’s a girl to do?

Anyway, have a great night!

That restaurant looks amazing! And so did your dish but so sad that it was cold! I don’t usually send things back at restaurants unless its necessary. If they’re a good restaurant they’ll appreciate that you let them know because they want you to leave happy. I want one of their cookbooks now!

Sorry to hear that your meal wasn’t that great (and that the boyf will leave tomorrow) 😦 but it sounds like a lovely restaurant nevertheless.
I like mooses (is that the plural form of moose? Sounds a bit like Moses) so I wouldn’t mind if you turned into one :).

So sorry to hear that your meal wasn’t the greatest– what a dsiappointment 😦 I’m a huge wimp and NEVER send anything back either.

I have three of their cookbooks: Classics, low-fat cooking, and simple suppers, and I would recomment all of them! They’re all great, just depending on what you’re looking for.

Sorry the food wasn’t great 😕 I used to waitress and as long as the customers were polite about it, I don’t think anyone minded.

The apple=blackberry crumble sounds delicious though!

I have Moosewood Restaurant Cooks at Home — I like it and recently posted a cauliflower pasta dish from it.

I’ve always been curious about what the actual restaurant was like, so it was really interesting to read your post.

I’ve been in Ithaca a million times and have yet to go to Moosewood–it’s weird but I’m afraid that they’ll somehow disappoint the idea I have of them.

I LOVE their cookbooks and own the same three as Anne. If I were to pick just one, though, it would always be Moosewood New Classics–it’s the one cookbook I’d save if I had to pick just one.

Sorry you weren’t happy with what you ordered! If the temperature was the major issue, I would have no problem sending it back, and I doubt the restaurant would think it was rude.

I’m tempted to get the cookbook too, but it is a little spendy! I’m going to wade through some of my other books before I can justify buying another one 🙂

I want to go there just for that blackberry crumble. I do the same thing when going out to eat, I am a fanatic about finding the restaurant website then decide what I am going to get because I always wait to order last and still cant make up my mind.

I don’t send things back in restaurants, even if it’s a little different from what I ordered. I just feel rude and demanding… not that I think that of people who do send things back. I dunno, it’s a weird personal thing.

That dessert looks like it totally made up for your subpar meal. 🙂
