Mop or Swiffer?

This summer I moved 3 times.

First, into an apartment I was subletting for the summer.

Then for 2 weeks into the Biscotti Queen’s co-op.

Then finally, into my permanent apartment for the year.

Love it.  It’s old and most definitely has “character.” Example: teal bathroom that makes me smile with a funny little closet that reminds me of Alice in Wonderland.

It would use a little more natural light, but Ithaca doesn’t get much sunshine most of the year anyway so I’ll deal.  Check out my makeshift work station until my roommate comes back with a wireless router.

I also seem to already be dominating the kitchen.

Then again the kitchen probably gets more use than my bedroom.

In other news, you’ll be happy to know that the Sahara Desert was under my bedroom rug.

Isn’t that crazy?!? There was literally a pile of dirt/sand/dust under the rug!  About 3 dust pans full!

Now that that is taken care of, my room can start to resemble comfy/homey-ness.

So let me get to the title of this post.  Mop or Swiffer?

Which do you prefer?

I have a Swiffer Wet Mop but I’m out of the wet pads.  I could either buy more replacements or get a mop. I feel like I’d like to explore the possibility of a mop.

I like that the Swiffer is quick and easy.  But I hate that I have to use at least 2 swiffer pads to get things really clean.

I’ve never really used a mop so I think that could be fun for a bit.

I like a mop!!!! I think it’s such a waste to use those swiffer pads once or twice when you use a mop over and over again! So get a mop, bucket, and some Pine Sol and get cleaning 😉 I think the apartment’s cute, I like the floors!

Cute apartment!!! Love the bathroom 🙂 Obviously the people who lived there before didn’t have a dustpan and had to resort to the bedroom rug! So weird!

I have a swiffer wet jet right now and I’m also beginning to hate how you need more than one pad to clean the floor. Such a waste and not very green…… Once my refills run out I think I’ll get a mop. One of my friends was telling me today that she has this

Apparently you don’t need to use anything but water to clean the floor! The steam cleans it!!! She loves it. I want one.

Your apartment is SO cute!! I love the kitchen and your little work area 🙂
I like the swiffer wet jets. I’ve never had to use more than one pad, and sometimes don’t even throw it out after every use. Just depends where I cleaned (I wouldn’t re-use a bathroom one, for instance) but it looks like you’ve got more hard floors than we do so you probably would. I’m not crazy about the original swiffers – like you said, they seem to dry out too fast.
And hey, nothing wrong with a good ol’ mop, either! I think buying the swiffer stuff can get pretty pricey – whereas with a mop, you’ve got the expense of the mop, a bucket, and some cleaner. Just don’t get one of those “stringy” ones. Ugh. 😛

I’m a mop girl– I never feel like the swiffer does as good a job!

I love your new place– your desk area has a lot of light, it looks like!

We had that exact same tile in our first house!!! I wish I could find pictures – but I didn’t take enough of them back then! That house was old and very quirky/interesting as to it’s design and decor. I have lots of stories about things we found there (like bottles of home-made wine from the time of prohibition, for example) It’s been years but I kind of miss that place!

Oh…and as to the swiffer/mop debate, I don’t use either. My hubby does the floors and he uses the “hands and knees with a big sponge” method. 🙂

I think your apartment is cute! And how gross that the Sahara dessert was under your rug haha (I’m a huge neat freak). So to answer the swiffer/mop question…I’d have to say def. use a vacuume & then mop. But I realize that not everyone’s as anal as I am 😀

LOL @ all the random sand!!

Also, your closet door has a window. Haha!

Swiffer, for sure. My family was all about mops and then I went to college and discovered the Swiffer. Trust me, it might take two of the little pad things to clean everything but its so much easier than cleaning with a mop.

If you’re going for the mop anyway, you’ll need a bucket too.
