Brunch at the Carriage House

I don’t usually eat out two meals in a row, but since the lovely fella is leaving we decided to make the most of his time here in Ithaca.  It was 26 degrees out (eek!!) so I suited up before walking to breakfast!

I look kind of like a marshmallow but seriously, this jacket kept me ridiculously warm! Despite the fact that it was pretty cold, it was a lovely walk.  Then we arrived at the Carriage House.  They’re known for having a really good brunch, so I was pretty excited to go.  I love brunch! I prefer breakfast foods to any other meal!

The decor was lovely and the ambiance was very cozy.

And they had Bon Appetit magazine at each table!!  Great reading material for when you’re waiting for your meal!

I ordered the scrambled eggs (cage free!) with ciabatta toast and a side of garlic home fries (served with house-made tomato-ginger ketchup).  The tomato-ginger ketchup was interesting.  A little too sweet for my liking but a great flavor combination, almost reminded me of a chutney.

Overall, this place was pretty good.  Their coffee was tasty, food was pretty good and the decor was great!

What’s your favorite restaurant??

Last Day of Class

It’s the last day of class!  Thank goodness!

I pretty much stayed up all night (actually went to bed at 4am woke up at 7am… so I had a nap).  I won’t even tell you all the things I ate last night.  I was all sorts of disgusting!

On to a happier day…

Breakfast was one of my favorites!  I’m not sure how I’ve not had this for so long!

I didn’t have any toast so I used a Mini Pita, spread some PB (with flax!) on it and sliced up a banana!  Yum!  I have a slight banana obsession!  I think it runs in the family.  My mom eats multiple bananas per day.

What yours favorite breakfast?

Sad/Happy Story: I was up pretty much all night working on this paper that I’ve been obsessing over for weeks.  I couldn’t figure out why I kept writing but I seemed to ways have 10-11 pages… then I realized, most of it was actually in 10pt font!  So REALLY I had 17 pages!  Amazing!

Lunch with probably be an apple, a carrot and a cliff bar again… hopefully dinner will make up in amazingness!

Have a fantastic day!

Happy December!

Can you believe it’s already December 1st!?!  Where did time go?!?

It’s already the last week of classes, which means I have a 6368299490063357100 million things due in the next two weeks.

I woke up this morning, wrote a bit more of my paper and flat out didn’t feel like making anything.  So for breakfast I had a DELICIOUS Green Monster.

I finally decided I should probably pack a lunch, being that it’s a long day (but the second to last long day!!!)

I took the lazy route…  Kind of boring so dinner needs to be AMAZING! and  cooked by the lovely fella.

Today the December Recipe Challenge starts!  In case you missed it, you can read about it here!  I hope you’ll all join me!

Have a great day!!

Vegan For A Day

After a little bit of thought, I decided to jump on the bandwagon and do the vegan for a day challenge.  At first I was a bit apprehensive because well, I’m a planner… (not just a city planner) but I like to make sure I’m fully prepared for this.  The thought that I wasn’t prepared for a day full of vegan meals made me uneasy.  However, after some thought, I realized that going at it unprepared could make the challenge more fun.

That being said, Breakfast was a DELICIOUS Green Monster.

My green monster contains: 2 handfuls of spinach, 1/2 a frozen banana, about 5 frozen strawberries, 1 tbsp of almond butter, and some water. Some was enjoyed at home while writing this post, the rest will be enjoyed in class in my travel mug 🙂

For lunch, I’m packing some garbanzo beans and vegetables with Wegman’s Asian Style BBQ Sauce.

I was looking at the ingredients then realized it told me it was vegan right on the side of the container! I love these labels that Wegman’s puts on it’s products.

Then while making lunch there was a slight disaster with my frozen vegetables

Spilled all over the counter!  Yes, my vegan meal will be eaten out of a cottage cheese container.  I’m a ridiculously broke grad student environmentally conscious and recycling plastic containers…

Have a fantastic day!

A More Typical Day

Yesterday was sort of a fluke since I had a group meeting, but today’s breakfast is more the norm.

Breakfast for me is the most important meal and probably one of the largest (I aim for about 400 calories).  This doesn’t work for everyone but I’ve found that if I have a large breakfast, I tend to eat less throughout the day.

Breakfast is a two part process.

Part 1: Yogurt.

1/2 Greek Yogurt either plain or jazzed up a bit.  Right now I’ve been on a Pumpkin Butter kick, so I add a bit of that.  Then I leave a little less than 1/4 of a cup in the bowl so I can have some creamy oats…

Part 2: Oats.

1/2 cup of oats, 1 banana, water and 1/2tbsp nut butter (today I used peanut butter with flaxseed).

Today is another long day.  I have class from 9:00am-3:00pm, then I plan on staying in the lab and working on my Statistics project.

Coming up tonight:  A post of Food Security!

Busy Day

Today is one of those busy days.  I got up at 6am and made it to a 6:30 spin class, which was great!  Then I came home and made breakfast and lunch.  I knew I had a 9am group meeting so I took my breakfast to go.

I made some oats in a jar (1/2 cup oats, 1 banana, cinnamon, fage and probably about a tbsp of pb).  Luckily I was pretty much done with this peanut butter because it turned out to be a great way to transport my breakfast.

Lunch is also ready to go.  I combined some left over roasted tofu, eggplant, and zucchini from dinner two nights ago with some left over spaghetti squash and pasta sauce to make a great combination (hopefully… I haven’t tried it yet)

I don’t plan on being home until late tonight so I packed snacks too (an apple and a Kashi bar)

If I don’t pack snacks, I know I’ll eat junk the rest of the night.  Some people get drunk and make bad decisions, I get hungry and make bad decisions!
